Dr Rani Menon, our founder, is an eminent and renowned eye surgeon in South India. She acquired her professional training from the National Health Service of England and Wales and underwent her practice at Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore. She is a veteran treating in all types of eye-related problems and diseases, and specializes in Cataract, Glaucoma, and Squint correction

 

Dr Rani Menon holds a fellowship in Glaucoma and is currently doing her research on Glaucoma-related issues and challenges. A member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and a previous member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, she is also a member of the “All India Ophthalmic Society and Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons”. Her research project includes modifications in Glaucoma surgery to overcome long-term failures.

Dr Rani Menon holds the record for individuals carrying out nearly one lakh successful cataract surgeries so far. She introduced the most advanced Cataract Surgeries using OZIL technology INFINITI (USA) for the first time in Thrissur. Suture-less or no stitch squint surgery using fibrin glue was also pioneered primarily by her in Thrissur. 

Her Achievements:

Under the presidentship of Dr Rani Menon, The Thrissur Academy of Ophthalmologists was awarded the best club for 2008 by the All-Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons. She has presented several papers and chaired several sessions at various conferences at the national and international levels.

Notable Achievements:

  • Installation of new LASIK: LASIK or Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis is the new latest and safest way to get rid of your glasses. Dr Rani Menon’s Eye Clinic is equipped with the latest LASIK machine (EX 500 wave light) offering better treatment for all her patients.
  • Research: Dr Rani Menon’s findings in her research about Glaucoma have made a tremendous breakthrough in its effective treatment to prevent blindness. Her research has found that people with sleep apnoea and snoring has had an increased incidence of Glaucoma. Thereby establishing a positive connection between snoring, sleep apnoea, and glaucoma. This study being the first of its kind was highly appreciated at the international conference conducted in Chennai in 2010.
  • Another appreciated original research by Dr Rani Menon presented in Boston, the USA was about modified trabeculectomy which helped prevent failures in glaucoma surgery. 
  • Another research has shed light on the higher possibility of glaucoma in individuals with thyroid deficiency. Research is also being done by the Centre to discover the under-diagnosed risk factors that lead to glaucoma.
