Dr. Rani Menon is one of the most experienced eye specialists in South India. Having undergone training with the National Health Service of England and Wales, and extensive practice at Aravind Eye Hospital, Coimbatore, she is highly specialized in attending to all types of Eye problems, especially Cataract, Glaucoma and Squint correction procedures.
Dr. Rani Menon holds a Fellowship in Glaucoma and is currently doing a research in Glaucoma related issues and challenges. She was a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and is currently a member of the, "All India Ophthalmic Society and Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons". Her research projects include modification in Glaucoma surgery to overcome failures in the long term.
She has the reputation of introducing the most advanced Cataract Surgeries using OZIL technology INFINITI (USA) for the first time in Thrissur. Dr. Rani Menon holds the credit of introducing Suture-less or No Stitch Squint Surgery using fibrin glue in the Thrissur district.
Dr. Rani Menon has individually carried out nearly one lakh successful cataract surgeries so far.
Her Achievements: Under the president-ship of Dr. Rani Menon, The Thrissur Academy of Ophthalmologists was awarded the best club for 2008 by the All Kerala Society of Ophthalmic Surgeons. She has presented several papers and chaired several sessions at various conferences in the national and international level.

- Research: Glaucoma is a disease that can cause eye blindness. Dr. Rani Menon has been conducting researches to find an effective solution to prevent blindness due to Glaucoma. Her research has found the increased incidence of Glaucoma in people with sleep apnoea snoring, and thereby established a positive association between snoring and sleep apnoea and glaucoma. This is a breakthrough discovery, because now we have an effective way of treating snoring and thereby glaucoma. This study is the first of its kind in India and it was much appreciated at the international conference conducted in Chennai in 2010.
A much appreciated original research by Dr. Rani Menon was presented in Boston, USA about modified trabeculectomy, which helps to prevent failures in glaucoma surgery. Another research has shed light on the higher incidence of glaucoma in thyroid deficient individuals. The Center is doing research into discovering the under diagnosed risk factors that lead to glaucoma.
